  1. I think that sight is the most important for me. Sight is almost essential for many things like navigating your way around, reading, seeing someone. Imagine how sad it would be to never be able to see your parents. Also if you had sight it would be easier to learn because a lot of material is in textbooks, power points, or even sometimes a teacher will write material on the board. Anyway, that is why I believe sight is the most important for me.

    1. Asad, I really like how you put very "hard-hitting" points as suport for your opinion. Such as, never seeing your parents.

    2. I agree that it would be so sad not being able to see your parents throughout your entire life.

    3. I agree with everything you said. However, even though this isn't very relevant, braille can be used in exchange of reading.

  2. The five senses are: touch, taste, sight, smell, and hearing, of which Augusts is damaged. To me, of these, the most important to me is sight. One reason sight is important to me is because I use it all the time. An example is right now I am using sight to type or when I play basketball or when I play video games. Also, with out sight I could not drive, shop, walk, eat neatly, or even read. In conclusion, I believe sight is the most important skill to me.

  3. Auggie couldn't here very well for a very long time, but once he got his hearing aids he was able to here clearly. I think the most important sense for me is sight. Without sight I couldn't see anything. I wouldn't be able to see my parents or my sister. I would be limited from doing many activities. I would have trouble walking from place to place. With sight I can see everything in the world. I can see the ocean, cities, countries, and most importantly, I can see people. With sight I can interact with people. With sight I can discover new places, people, and dreams.

    1. I like how you spoke about your dreams and how it would be difficult to achieve them without sight. There'd just be so many things you couldn't do, and knowing that would be a huge weight on my shoulders.

    2. Cameron, I like your uplifting piece at the end. Not a complaint, but I found it hilarious how you said: without sight I couldn't see anything.

    4. I really like how you said that the most important reason why sight is the most important is because we can see and interact people. People can create dreams and make them come true.

    5. I disagree, I think touch is most important. I think touch is most important because you would not know if you had a painful disease/ virus you would not know. Also, I would have braille for sight, and on all government websites and many computers, the computer can speak to you so you won's have to read.

  4. I think the most important sense for me is my sense of sight. Without it, the world would be nothing but a great big darkness, like always being in a cave with no light. I sympathized with Auggie and Jack when they were out in the woods, surrounded by a cloak of darkness so thick they couldn't see their hands in front of their face. Having been able to see may have kept them from running into Eddie and his friends. Without my sight, I'd be much more prone to dangers such as being hit by a car, or, although it sounds unlikely, not noticing a ledge and walking right off of it. Not to mention if I was born without sight I'd never know what my family or friends looked like. It would be like being on a phone call with someone you've never met in person. If my sense of sight is most important, my hearing is most definitely in second place. I wouldn't be able to hear music without it, and I'd always be late for school without an alarm clock that I could hear. Without either of these, I feel like the world would be awfully boring, drab, and colorless. There'd be no variety in life, even if you went somewhere like Disney World. Imagine being on a rollercoaster without being able to see or hear. I feel like I'd always be blue no matter how wonderful the things around me were.

  5. The most import sense to me out of the five sense: sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell would be sight. Sight is extremely important to me because without it I wouldn't be able to recognize people by their faces and I wouldn't be able to see colors. I have to be able to see the beauty of Mother Nature. Without sight I wouldn't have any better coordination than I already do. Some examples of why I think sight would be better than these are that for hearing you can use sign language. Taste doesn't really bother me either because some things just don't taste good at all. All of the other senses are important too but sight is the most important to me. Without being able to see my friends faces would be a living nightmare! As well as not being able to see colors. Sight is needed and will always help me.

  6. The sight is the most important because if you can not see you can’t read or write. You would not be able to do things freely because you can not see. You would need a cane or would need a dog to lead you and that would cost money. You probably could not work at most places. You also would not be able to have a normal life as to with the other one you can see the world and adventure. You would not be able to play with your friends as well in sports or video games. So that is why sight I believe is the most important out of all of the senses.I think that that sight is the most important sense.

  7. I personally think sight is the most important out of all the senses. If you didn't have sight, you wouldn't be able to see the world around you, or your family and friends. You wouldn't be able to experience the beauty that Earth has. If you went on a vacation, you wouldn't understand what was happening and it would be hard for you to know what you were seeing. You don't always need hearing to communicate because sight can help you as well. Sometimes, when I am in class, I can tell how my friends feel by looking at their eyes, facial expressions, and body language. It is important to know what is happening around you and how other people around you feel. You couldn't do that if you were blind. Taste, smell, hearing, and touch just aren't as necessary as sight.

  8. The five senses are sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. Out of these five senses I think sight is the most important sense to me. Sight helps me see everything around me, helps me understand a problem if the teacher draws it on the board, and helps me watch T.V. and movies. Sight also helps me recognize people and helps me in sports. If I couldn’t see I would not be able to recognize my friends and family when meeting them and sight helps me in sports because I can see the ball in basketball or in other sports. The most important reason is sight helps me see where I am going without sight I would crash into things all around me. These are the reasons I think sight is the most important sense.

  9. I think that our sight is the most important sense in humans because we able to see things and understand them easier than our other senses. We also use our sight more than any of the other five. The only exception is if a person is blind, but I'm extremely sure that being blind is not very common to get. Furthermore, people who are blind won't be able to enjoy colorful artworks and events, like Independence Day. They wouldn't be able to enjoy the colors that zoom up into the air and explode into a rainbow goodness. They also won't be able to recognize variety. For example, I always liked to compare other people's noses or hair. It was a great pastime when traveling on an airplane or walking down an Italian street with the different colored shops. My ultimate reason is that people won't be able to enjoy the colors of nature. For example, in the novel, Wonder, August had said there would be campfires and s'mores and long walks through the woods at their nature retreat. If he wouldn't be able to see, he wouldn't enjoy them as much as he did in the book. Even though there could be many more reasons out there that could debate that sight is most important, I used these reasons to debate my opinion.

  10. In my opinion, sight is the best sense out of all of the other senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell), because without it you cannot see anything. You would be missing out on the whole world and the people in it. Life would not be any fun at all if you couldn’t see it. Without sight I wouldn’t be able to do my best at swimming or dancing. Also, if I couldn’t see I wouldn’t be able to play games with my family. If I went on a field trip for school, I would not be able to see anything and that’s no fun. Hearing doesn’t bother me because I can use my hands to communicate and the other senses are needed but to me not as much as sight. For all of these reasons, sight is the most important sense.

  11. To me, touch is the most important sense. You can live a long time without hearing, smelling, tasting, or even seeing. If I can't feel anything, how would I know when I am hurt. If I had a concussion, I wouldn't know. It would get worse and worse and finally I would have permanent brain damage. My arm or leg could be broken, and I would not know, My hand could be on a burner and I would feel no pain. My hand might be burned beyond recognition. If I couldn't see, I would make it up using my imagination. If I couldn't taste, I would be able to eat anything. If I couldn't smell, all of the world's bad smells wouldn't be there. If I couldn't hear, I wouldn't hear mean comments being said about me.

  12. Out of all the senses, I think hearing would be by far the worst. I've been reading a few of my other classmates blogs, and I've concluded that a majority of people would hate to lose their sense of sight. I can't even imagine losing my sense of sight, but I still think losing my sense of hearing would be much worse. If I lost my sense of hearing I don't think I would be able to function. Can you imagine never hearing your mom or dad say ,"I love you", again? Or not being able to hear the sound of nature or birds chirping? Or never hearing your favorite song again? I definitely couldn't do it! If you could still see, but couldn't hear, you would miss so many things. You couldn't dance, school would be almost impossible, and driving would be very hard too. I don't how Helen Keller functioned without sight or hearing, but I don't even know how I could function without hearing. I really hope I never have to try!

    1. I really like how you chose the hearing sense instead of sight especially when everybody did that (even me). One of my most favorite points in your paragraph is that when you can't hear, you won't hear your mom or dad say "I love you again". I think that is very true. I also like how your paragraph stands out the most, out of all the other paragraphs.

      Delete
    2. I like how you stated that you would not be able to hear some of the most simple things in life such as birds chirping or your parents telling you I love you or your favorite song again.

    3. I agree with Neha. I think that your paragraph stands out. I also like how you supported your main idea with details. Good Job!

      Delete
    4. I disagree. You might not be able to hear your parents say I love you but they can still say it using sign language or you could read they're lips, which isn't very hard. Deaf people can still communicate.

      Delete
  13. I think that the most important sense is sight because you wouldn't be able to see colors, friends, family, and places I went to. If I couldn't hear I could still read textbooks to learn and my job could be a stock broker or something online. If I didn't have the sense of smell I could still do everything I just wouldn't be able to smell anything. the same thing goes with taste but I just wouldn't be able to taste anyone.I would need sight to protect myself if something moving was coming close to me like a car. If I didn't have the ability/sense of sight Nothing would really come out. You couldn't tell if your prom date looks beautiful or not. You wanted to get to see some of the most fantastic sights like the sunset, Eiffel Tower, etc. So, in conclusion, I would say that sight would be the hardest sense till live without.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree and disagree at the same time. While your points about seeing your prom date, the Eiffel Tower, and various other sights to see are valid, I think touch is more important. Without touch you wouldn't know if something was burning you, for example. You wouldn't know you broke a bone until it popped out of your skin. Also, many diseases would go unnoticed without your body giving you the signal that is was hurt. In conclusion, while your points are valid, I feel touch is more important.

      Delete
    2. I like how you supported your idea by giving examples of how you can live without your other senses.

      Delete
  14. I think the most important sense is hearing because without it you wouldn't be able to hear your family or friends when they want to talk to you. Without hearing you would have to learn sign language which I think is to much work just to communicate. Also like in the video the woman said it was incredible just to hear birds chirping, so for her that is something special. In conclusion I think hearing is the sense I think is the most important.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I disagree, while hearing can be very useful, a solution is already present in sign language. I do not think sign language is too much work, and even if it was, at least you can communicate. If you are deaf you can also read lips, which is even easier. In conclusion, I think hearing is important, but there are still easy ways to communicate if you are deaf.

      Delete
    2. I disagree. Hearing is totally curable. I know I said sight is the most important sense, and that is curable, but the woman in the video was fine. She was deaf for all of her life except for 8 days. If someone is blind, I think it would be much harder.

      Delete
    3. I disagree. Although hearing is important, it is not most important. If you can't hear you can interact with people using sign language. If you can't see you can't interact with people. In closing, I think there are more important senses than hearing.

      Delete
    4. I disagree.
If I had to choose one sent that I am willing to give up it would be hearing. There are many solutions to not being able to hear you could get hearing aids or learn to read lips.

      Delete
    5. I also disagree. While losing hearing would be very difficult I think losing other senses, especially sight, would be more grave. You can still do things without hearing such interactions with others. Remember Beethoven was deaf but he still wrote wonderful music and notes.

      Delete
    6. I love how you referred to the video it adds a whole new depth to the blog.

  15. In my opinion, touch is the most important sense. Firstly, if one is blind, they use speak functions on a computer and read with braille. If one cannot taste, they eat only healthy food and will be fit. If one cannot smell, their taste is impaired and they cannot smell, but those are minor setbacks. If one cannot hear, they read lips and use sign language. However, what will happen if one cannot touch? The person would feel no pain, so they would not know they had cancer, appendicitis, and various other painful diseases until their yearly checkup(even then, 57% of people do not have a yearly checkup https://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/health_care_insurance/cb12-185.html) and then it might be too late. In conclusion, I think touch is the most important sense because, there is no solution to not feeling touch(unlike being deaf, because that can be cured as seen in the video), and not having touch can be deadly.

  16. All of the five senses are important, but I think sight is the most important. Without sight, I would not be able to see my friends, family, or anyone all together. I would not be able to see where anyone is, so I cannot hug anyone. Without sight, I won’t be able to see where I am walking or wherever I am going. I won’t be able to locate anyone or anything. Also, I need sight to protect myself from moving objects like cars. I can run away from danger with sight. In addition, I would not be able to explore and celebrate my Indian culture. Diwali, for example, is the festival of lights. I don’t need hearing, taste, touch, or smell to look at the lights. I need my sight. The woman in the video had been deaf for most of her life, and she turned out fine. I do not think she would have turned out as fine if she was blind, though. Without sight, I would not be connected to life.

  17. I think touch is the most important sense of all. If you get injured, then you would not feel any pain, and the injury would not be addressed. Also, if you get a concussion, you would not notice, and your brain would be damaged, and you might lose other senses. Another reason why touch is the best sense is because it is can be used if your other senses don’t work anymore. For example, Helen Keller used touch to learn about basic tools in life when her sense of sight and hearing were eradicated. I think touch benefits someone the most, and people who don't have this important sense are missing out on quite a few things.

  18. Out of all of the five senses, sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell, I believe that sight is the most important sense. If your sight was lost, you would not be able to see yourself or the people you love. The wonderful world around you would not be available for you to see. You would not be able to attend a school with regular people. You could never see art or color or know how the most ordinary and simple things look like. If you ever got your eyes fixed, much like how August got hearing aids, you would be amazed at some of the things people that can see take for granted, just like how August was amazed at how clearly he could now hear after he put the hearing aids on. You also would not be able to recognize how things are different sight wise. Since you cannot use your eyes, your other senses will become stronger. Overall, the blind face great struggles in life, but some people still continue to find a way to cure blindness

  19. It was a hard decision choosing between sight and hearing. However, I choose sight. Without sight, I could not drive, see what Earth looks like, do sports, etc. I would have to have a person guide me where to go without sight until I would be able to get accustomed to walking by myself. I would probably have to be homeschooled, and that would be very expensive unless my parents homeschooled me. Imagine never being able to see what your family looked like. You would not know what your favorite color is. I would be sad each and everyday without sight because I would not be able to see anything. I would not be able to do things with my friends that everyday kids could do. The essential idea of this blog is that I think that sight is the most important out of my five senses.

  20. Out of the five senses, which include sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell, I think that sight is the most important one. Lacking sight, I wouldn’t be able to read and draw, which are my most favorite hobbies. Learning new things would be arduous, since I wouldn’t be able to see anything, and I would have to rely on my auditory skills. Also, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy my surroundings and most importantly, the beauty of nature. The trees swaying in the crisp breeze and the flowers, vibrant in hues, rolling in the lush fields would all be taken away from my life. Not only that, I would be restricted from doing many activities. However, these are only a few of the reasons why I chose sight as the most essential sense in my life.

  21. Sight is the most important sense in my opinion. Without sight I couldn’t see the world or the people in it. I couldn’t play softball or do any other activities, and it would be very hard to swim. If can’t see anyone then I can't interact with anyone. It would also be difficult in school because I couldn’t see anything, so I would have to do some things verbally. For example, when I was taking a spelling test, I couldn’t write so I took it verbally. It was much harder because I couldn’t see the word in front of me to check if I missed a letter or if the word didn’t look right. Then, I asked if I could write the remaining words down and then say them so I could make sure the words were correct. After I wrote down the words, I did much better. I couldn’t see all the beautiful landmarks in the world or even see my own backyard. In conclusion, sight is the most important sense to me because I simply don't know what I would do without it.

  22. Out of the five senses, I think sight is the is most important. Without sight you wouldn't be able to see and the animals, people, and the objects around you. Imagine just living in a world of darkness and nothing there with you. You would never know what the world would look like. For example, you wouldn't be able to draw as good as you would see. Worst of all, you can't see colors or light. You wouldn't be able to do many activities, or sports. Someone will probably accompany me wherever I go. And hope that not many people will be blind.:(

  23. For me I think sight would be the most important because you would miss you the entire everything. You would never see anything beautiful. If you had seen anything before the time you were blind you would miss being able to see even more. Imagine not being able to see your friends, parent, and classmates. The main thing you would never see again is our beautiful earth. I think other senses would also be hard to live without, but I think living without sight would be the hardest.

  24. Out of the five senses sight, hearing, tasting, touch, and smelling I think the most important sense is touch. If you lost sight then you could feel where to go. If you lost smell you could feel what it the object the scent was coming from and imagine what it smells like. If you lost taste then you would imagine what it would taste like an if the food originally tasted bad then you would not have to taste it. If you lost your sense of touch you could never feel if you were in danger. You could break a bone and you would never know. This could harm you permanently. Touch fills in for all of your missing senses.

    1. I like how you gave an example about how each of the other senses has a resolution. For example, when you said if someone lost sight they could feel where to go.

  25. I think that the most important sense for Auggie is hearing because he needs to be able to hear what people are telling him. It is one of the most important he can still eat, see, and smell its just that when he eats he's messy. My second sense that i think will help Auggie is eating food because when he eat's food go's everywhere.

  26. While it is a very close race between the senses of sight and touch, for me, the sense of sight wins as being the most important. The other four senses are very important but I believe sight provides much more information that will help you if you should lose any of the other senses. For example if you lose your sense of touch, you can get harmed from a cut because you cannot feel the pain of the cut, but you can still see the blood from the cut and get help. Sight also helps keep you connected with others, from seeing your friends and families to reading books like Wonder that talks about other people's ideas. This is why I believe sight is the most important sense that I have.

  27. For me, sight is the most important sense. Sight is what helps you to know where you are going at all times. Without sight you could not drive or ever know what you family and friends looked like, you would never see a sunset or a sunrise. If you lost your sight all you would see is dark every morning and every night would be pitch black. You would never be able to see which direction you are going which would most likely mean that you would have to be accompanied by a special dog or a person at mostly all times. If you did happen to be blind how would you ever be able to tell places apart? It would also be very hard to go to school and learn normally if you didn't want to attend a school made for the blind. To me, sight is the most important sense you could ever have.

  29. I think my touch/feeling is my most important sense because it protects me from hurting myself. For example if I touch a pan that is over a fire that is very hot my touch/ feeling sense protects me from hurting my self by telling me to immediately move my hand away from the pan. It also think it is important because it adds a different aspect in your life about everything. For example it might help factoring buying certain things. This is why I think touch/feeling is the most important sense
